Drain Repair Done Right: From Flooded Cellar to Dry Storage
Our BN Drainage team was called by a pub in London to fix an old recurring issue of flooding in its cellar. As a result, their stock was constantly being ruined, and staff were unable to access the space safely. Multiple drainage companies tried to fix the issue but failed.
The Challenge
Upon inspection, we discovered that a river ran beneath the property. Previous excavations by others had opened pathways for groundwater to seep in. Given the age of the building, the cellar was not watertight, and water continuously made its way through the smallest cracks.
Our Solution
We began by pumping out the flooded cellar using a tanker. With the space cleared, we conducted a full investigation using CCTV and jetting equipment. Once the issue was confirmed, we:
- Backfilled all failed previous excavations
- Installed an 8-metre ACO drain and built a pump chamber to collect runoff
- Added a second ACO drain and built a second pump pit
- Connected both pump pits to a newly installed underground drainage system
- Replaced 3 metres of damaged pipework and backfilled all trenches
The Result
Although water from the underground river still enters the cellar, it now flows directly into the drains and is pumped safely away. The cellar is dry and fully functional. Beer stock is protected, and staff can finally access the space. The pub landlord was delighted, calling it the first real fix in years. All of this success was achieved in just 5 days.
